Hi all,

I'm looking to get a little height out of the front end of my 72 Gremlin I6. I believe it's sitting pretty much at stock height, even though the springs are old for sure. I don't want to buy new I6 springs and not gain any height vs buying V8 springs.

My questions are, will this work? And has anyone done it and realized it was a mistake?

thanks all!

Are you trying to increase the current height or remove height?

Increase height, like 2-4 inches would be fine. I've looked at my car, and compared to others on-line, and I think the height is stock. Not sagging/worn out. I just don't want to buy replacement springs and be at the same height ya know.

Thanks.

Cut half a coil out of the bottom of your existing springs. Will increase rate and lower an inch or 2. Cheap and easy. I gave up trying to get custom coils to work on the small cars...always too high and the bottom of the spring isnt always formed right and tired of sending them back. Eaton Detroit was the worst but that was years ago so may be better now.. I cut mine 1 full coil and will see what it looks like when I get the engine back in. Should be good but if its too high im going to coilovers and be done with it

V8 springs will make it sit even higher and ride harder......my vote is to cut a coil off or get custom springs.....  you did fix the rust didnt you?

Hi all. I am looking to RAISE the front end, not lower it. I'm going with larger tires in the rear, so I want the front up a little. I really dig that 70's high school look. I also seem to be bottoming out on really high spots on the road. I live in Pittsburgh, lots of pot holes, bumps and dungty roads. I also bought replacement shocks that I hope will help with the bottoming out.

I'm looking to go higher, not lower. And YES, the frame rail rust has been repaired!!! A local shop did the work, 4 generations of welders!

If you're hoping shocks will keep the car from bottoming out,   they won't.   And if you bottom the shocks out,  they won't be with you long.
Nothing shortens a shocks life quicker than bottoming them out,   or using them to limit suspension travel in rebound.

It better to choose your shocks after you got your car at the ride height you want.
If you make a 4 inch change in ride height,   you need to start looking at shocks with more extension than stock shocks.
