Air Gap is the best all around manifold available right now for an AMC V8 IMO. Dont be concerned about runner size length just put a smaller carb on it to speed up velocity and signal. I would run an Eddy 500 on your air gap for the 290 or if its cammed up maybe a 600. I run a 600 on a 401 on the street and a 750 for the track on an air gap. Takes me 10 minutes to change carbs

According to the Eddy available from Summit, the one for the 290 up to the 390 is not intended for the 401. Check the applications below.

It is because of one bolt pattern for 290, 343, and 1968 and 1969 model 390, and a different bolt pattern for the 304, 360, 1970 model 390, and all 401. The runner size is the same for each.

I thought the runner size might be the same, but didn't know for sure. With people mentioning not using a 290 intake on a 401 I thought something might be different... other than the center bolt holes and slight port offset. The deck of the later engines was raised about 1/16", so not much of a port difference. Gasket matching should take care of that on the smallish runner intake, but be careful about grinding on the head itself -- could make it hard to match a correct year intake later.

True, but you can also look at the on-line catalog, and see they only offer 2 AMC Air Gaps......one for early engines and one for late.
