Hi, new to the fourms here, just wondering if anyone can confirm that my car is what is supposed to be by serial number, all my documentation says it is a 1964 AMC Rambler Ambassador 2 door hard top, but not to sure
Serial #: HT334564
Also wondering what other years, models and makes  would work for our type of vehicle for parts
Thanks!

The VIN number decodes as a 1964 Rambler Ambassador V8 built in Brampton, Ontario  The starting VIN number for that series was HT-33301 (might be a misprint in my reference and could really be HT-333301 if there are as many digits in the VIN number as you quoted).     There were 4401 990 2-door hardtops built in 1964 and 1464 990H 2-door hardtops.  This includes both the Kenosha and Brampton plants and I am assuming that most of them were built in Kenosha.  If you include the information off of your driver's door tag, someone here can probably help with more of the decoding.

Most of the sheet metal was essentially duplicated with minor differences such as trim holes, in the 1963 Rambler Classic and 1963 Ambassador plus the 1964 Rambler Classic.  They made thousands of those cars.    Joe

Hi Joe

I appreciate the feedback.

Here is the info from my door tag.

T-426696
16416-2
1462C
51

I hope this helps you and in return helps me figure this all out.

Also from your answer you mentioned that a 1963 Rambler classic and 1963 ambassador and 1964 classic panels can mostly be interchanged because most of the trim panels on my car were filled in and different decals from a classic were put on using two sided tape.

What about the interior, as most of my interior is garbage or missing and some stuff switched over like my dash I was told is from a classic.

Thank you so much for all your help

Well rambler being rambler did things a lil different. As Joe stated, the 1963 & 1964 classic and ambassador are nearly identical. The ambassador being the "higher end" car. You can take a door from a 63 and use it on a 64. I've seen some pictures of 64 ambassadors having a different (white or silver) background in the gauge pod. I personally like it better.

I have a 63 ambo 990 and it has a lot of the lower grade classic appointments. Gauge pod looks like a classic, sunvisors are cardboard like from a 550 or 660 classic. Even my 1963 classic 770 wagon has better appointments than my 63 ambo. Some of it might have to do with where it was made or when in the model run it was made. I've also seen pictures of 64 ambassadors with the regular classic gauge pod. With Rambler, you never can really know what to expect!

Either way it sounds like you've got a neat car. Good luck. Oh yeah, pictures pictures pictures. We love pictures

You may need a Canadian expert to decode the door tag.  In the U.S. the first number is the body number.  That's the one that begins with a T.  The second line is the model number where it seems to get confusing.  You show a model number of 16416-2.  In the U.S. a 6416-2 is a 64 Classic 660 2 door Club coupe.  Not an Ambassador and not a hard top.  The third line is the trim code for which I have no info.  51 is the paint code and if it's the same as U.S. it would denote Rampart Red as the body color. Hope this helps.
