I know.  I know.  Who would have thought a Gremlin could rattle?  Well, I have been searching out loose hardware and I think part of the problem is that the gas lift cylinders for the rear hatch have enough play in them when closed that they rattle.  Does anyone have any suggestions for tightening them up?  The hatch itself latches soundly.

I have clamped the back seat to the stops with a carpenter's clamp for now, so I know it is not rattling.  There may be a rattle or two in the driver's door, but I will be removing the door panel and inspecting that area soon.  I think the driver's door latch is tight, but I have a new latch bolt and will replace that.

Any other common rattles in the rear of the car that people have found (especially in Gremlins?)  The muffler is new and exhaust pipe is sound a well routed.

What year Gremlin has gas-filled struts? I thought they were all the spring-within-a-cylinder type?

Yes, I misspoke. They are indeed the spring type. The important thing is that I think they rattle.
