A few will use a smoothed and polished bolt to replace the factory cam bolt.
There is a thread or two with info about it. http://theamcforum.com/FORUM/cam-walk-roller-vs-flat-tappet_topic55230_page1.html Edited by 304-dude - Sep/23/2016 at 10:10am |

Polished bolt works great, I am right now in the process of doing it. I used an grade 8 bolt, chucked it up in My drill press (I have no lathe), polished it,completely mocked up the timing cover and shimmed the bolt for 12 thou clearance using a feeler Guage taped to a long thin screwdriver right through the fuel pump hole. Hey if it's good enough for others it's good enough for me. Cost zero just a bit of time.

You can make your own if you are keen, I believe it uses a fairly common cam plate, otherwise Alfano is the only commercial source, I used the polished bolt method, been in there for 5 or 6 years now, but not a lot of miles.

I use Rollmaster timing set along with a polished bolt. No issues in 30 years. Rollmaster has a thrust bearing on back side of cam gear. Prevents scuffing of block and or cam gear.
