Maybe someone can point me in the right direction. I have a 1970 Rebel with a 4-speed. The shifter will pop out of 2nd gear. If the car is accelerating it will stay in gear, but if coasting and in gear it can pop out. What do you think this is?

Unless the shifter is out of adjustment you have a transmission problem, symptoms are not that uncommon for a old T 10.

hi, my SR-4 does the same thing (77 Hornet AMX) we've had the trans out and apart, replaced bearings, (one was bad), and checked everything out. still pops out of second gear. may be those plastic fork sliders ?? that I did not have in my rebuild kit? will try one more time. any ideas? thanks, gz

Bearing typically won't cause a jumping out of gear unless they cause an end play problem. Second gear as assembled on the main shaft could be a problem. If the shift fork pads or the groove in the slider are worn could be a problem. Worn teeth on the hub or the gear, not the gear teeth the teeth that engage it with the slider.  This would apply to any manual transmission.
