Does any one know the OEM spring size and rate for the front coil springs on a 1969 AMC Rambler with a  290 V8?

Since no one else is helping maybe I can.  But it's for the 66 American V8 .
But there are several different combinations in the TSM, 6 different combinations, with 3 different springs
one is a .496 inch wire diameter with a 93 lbs per inch after loaded rate.
Another is a .505 wire diameter with a 100 rate
And the heavy duty spring .513 wire diameter with a 115 rate

There are different combinations left and right side for with or without air, convertible, etc..

thanks so much for the info. I recently ordered the TSM, but this is helpful to get me started.  My car is a 69 AMC Rambler 440 Wagon, 290 V8, no A/C. I do design work for a spring manufacturer and am hoping to order a set based on the existing numbers and then they can tell me what they have that will give me a 1" - 1.5" drop.

According to the 66 TSM for the American wagon, V8, no ac,  it's standard .496 wire 93 rate, left and right.

Or heavy duty .513 wire with 115 rate. left and right.

69 might be different.

I have a replacement set of springs (new in box with receipt) that may or may not be of interest...was well over $200 new (believe $244.xx iirc), sell for $100/shipped...if no interest, no problem, just passing along, good luck with info gathering...

6speedamc do you have any idea what the specs are on you springs. If you know it might help you sell them.

There's 5 different springs rates and diameters when both the American 6 and V8 are considered, and that's just in 1966.

I always use Coil Spring Specialties (www.coilsprings.com) for coil springs. They have the factory specs for nearly all cars and will custom make a set for you. The early 60s cars are a bit softly spring, but the factory HD springs were hard. I have found that a spring 12% stiffer than stock provides a marked improvement in handling without affecting ride too much. The factory HD springs are close to 20% over stock and ride hard. The last ones I bought were only 10% stiffer and 3/4" shorter than stock. Handling is definitely better, and can hardly tell a ride difference at all. Should have went with that extra 2%! That seems to be the sweet spot.

I caution you with dropping more than 1" with the springs. More drop than that adversely affects suspension geometry. Unequal length A arms don't work right with much drop. Make a set of drop plates instead. There are measurements in the suspension section, a sticky on drop plates is there. Usually drops car 1-5/8" (IIRC) and doesn't affect suspension geometry -- use stock height springs.
