My crank shaft play is well beyond the specs and my thrust bearing on the cap and block are chipped. Would getting a new thrust bearing resolve my issue? Crank shaft is out of a 63' 440H and going into a 62' 440 block both 196. .003 to .008 is the specs and I'm at .07-.08 so yeah...help me. Pictures soon

So you must have a clutch and pushing against the pressure plate is what is wearing it in, right? A machinist that worked on babbited blocks told me they could build it back up again with a soldering iron and re-cut it back to specs. Of course it would be easier for you to get a new main bearing.

I think i'd try to determine why it's chipped. Worn thin is understandable, chipped is not.
