I recently had the M12 rebuilt. After getting it back in, I'm unable to shift into low and park isn't holding against the prawl. I've adjusted the linkage and even out it on the lift and ran the selector with the the shifter disconnected with the same results, so I believe it is internal. I've never been inside a Borg warner. Any ideas as to what it could be and if I will have to pull that heavy pig back out? Thanks in advance.

By taking the pan off you may be able to see something not right. Maybe the gear inside is out a tooth. I don't even know if that could be possible though and I only come at this with the perspective of having had the M35 apart.

I just looked at the 64 TSM so probably for an M8 so don't know how applicable it would be for the M12.
It shows disassembly of the manual linkage components after all the other units have been removed. It also shows what looks like an over centering spring attached to the parking pawl. |

Thanks all. I tallied to my transmission guy and he thought I have two issues. He thought a low vaccum signal may not be allowing the Governor to let the trans go in to low gear. Park he thought was a bent detent spring. Any thoughts on the vacuum idea? I think I'll be able to see the park issue when I pull the pan.

That's what I initially thought but I've been told by some that the Borg warner and FMX family of transmission will not allow the transmission to shift into low gear manually or otherwise unless below a certain speed. Ads there is no detent cable I'm assuming thee vaccum modulator would be the only way the transmission could "sense" throttle position in relation to line preasure. Low vaccum maybe the trans thinks it's under throttle? Maybe theres no base to my theory. |
