Oh Jesus, I somehow forgot ALL about this. The Eagles that populated the local yards last year save for one in Chico were serpentine equipped. But now that I think about it, I didn't see any crank nose length difference. Something is off. The crank currently in use was factory issued to my late 83 Eagle. The other unknown, presumably donated from an early 84 Eagle. Dimensions match.
I think so but there's a subtle nag that I should have pulled a 232 crank and rods? I refuse to validate the thought but it's there every day so I wonder. It's due to my personality. I'm an overthinker, that's a definite given but my subconscious is THE WORST.
The thing that I can't stand about this fact is that the ones still running are just a wreck or sudden detonation away from devolving into another junkasaurus. I've notice three common factors here. They are all: Three speed auto equipped Some outrageous 2.35/2.72 gearing The fact that I EVER find a manual equipped Eagle in the yards let alone both that I've ever seen within a month of each other after waiting for 7 years to pick a T-5 says everything. Junk the Chrysler crap because they're undeniably destructive to that poor little 6.
Just undid the shifter and taped down the housing. It's late and I'm looking for errors before proceeding. Throwout fork is mounted and properly centered. The throwout bearing is pre-lubed and appears correct but the retainer spring isn't doing a great job. Don't ask me how I'm keeping it centered, I'm cheating for the photo. This is the part where I think that dust boot would be really useful but then again, what do I know about this? I need to locate the other bell housing bolts and probably dig out the transmission jack. My arms don't have even fair leverage under the car like this. At least the pivot ball is willing to behave.
I may or may not be buying a COMPLETE 72 Javelin SST + 4spd in the morning IF the guy looking at it before me refuses. At sub-$1500 I doubt he'll say no but even I have stipulations for restoring such a beast. The year makes me wonder about starter location and the entire universe of problems associated with everything BEFORE the great change. Edited by DaemonForce - Jul/23/2016 at 3:01am |

hi, you are right about the scarcity of manual Eagles, I have only seen one locally, and it got away from me at the time. There is a guy on Eaglesden that has a manual wagon, loves it!
As for most eagles being high mileage near junkers, well, it HAS been 30+ years since the last one was built! Having said that, there is an Eagle wagon on ebay right now, as close to new as you are going to get, only 32k. Gentleman is asking "only", $22,000.! for it. Adjusting for inflation, thats about what they cost new! I understand you don't like the TQ998. Personally, I do, good solid transmission, and again, ours went over 300k with one rebuild, and is still good now. Also, my wife can drive it, she does not not like sticks, (though she can drive one if she has to). And yes, my Eagle has the 2:35 rear, no stoplight terror, but she has nice long legs on the highway. I'm keeping it! Good luck with the Javelin! gz
