This winter I did an engine rebuild on my '76 Gremlin, adding among other things a factory 4 barrel manifold with a Transdapt spreadbore to squarebore adapter and a factory rebuilt Holley 600 CFM carb. When I put it all back together and set up the kickdown linkage as it says in the manual the car goes into neutral when I expect it to kick down to second. This is what it looked like:

So I adjusted the linkage to look like it did before I started my rebuild (with the stock 2100) and it looked like this...

That is when it went into REVERSE when I expected it to drop to second!!!!

I'm guessing I did something wrong when I put it all back together??

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!!

Gary

From the pics you posted I don't think you have an issue with the linkage at the carb. I am betting that you have something internal to the transmission causing this issue or for some reason kickdown the linkage on the transmission isbinding on the shift linkage and therefore pulling you into reverse. I would start by crawling under and loking at how the shift linkage and kickdown are connected at the transmission.
