'69 AMX. "How to Tips" to get the cigarette lighter out of the dash would be much appreciated.

There is a "sleeve" that screw on the back of the lighter. The whole body in the rear turns to come off, it's a sleeve over the inner body. Does that make sense? Can be hard to hold the inner part while turning the outer if it has been in there a long time.

Do a search for lighters on eBay. They often show all three pieces and it might give you a better idea how it's installed.

Replacement lighter. It turns out the casing/outer had lost its conductivity despite vigorous efforts with the wire brush. We have in Australia an electronics outlet called JayCar which loosely is Geeks/Nerds heaven. To my surprise they sell brand new old style casings/outers for $7.00 AUD.
Just thought I'd share that if you have something similar in the states. It may upset the purist but heck, who's going to know what's behind the dash. |

"cigarette/cigar lighter sockets" are still common in the US. They are used as a 12V power outlet for various electronics. Most new cars have more than one -- just the socket though, no lighter element.
