This may or may not help, IDK, but my American(63) vacuum pump was leaking like a sieve one day after performing well for years, I simply tightened the upper diaphram screws, (not too tight!) and havent lost
a drop since.

Was helping someone today with their '73 360 Javelin.  Replaced a List 1850 600 Vac Sec carb with a List 4779 Double Pumper I screwed together for'em.  Has a "modern" swagged metal type mechanical fuel pump on it.  Used a chrome dual line at the carb with the 1/8" pipe port for a fuel pressure gauge right there on the chrome dual line.  No fuel pressure regulator "wanted", even though one was on-site in-hand...  The fuel pressure gauge was rapidly fluctuating non-stop at idle from ~7 to 11 psi...  Have no smart phone...  Oh so wanted a video to document & share of that fuel pressure gauge...  Who else, if anyone, has had a fuel pressure gauge in place to see just what fuel pressure they are getting with a "modern" replacement mechanical fuel pump ?...

I had that problem also. I used an in inline tee to tie in a guage. First pump leaked oil and ran 11#s pressure. The second one ran about 10#s and bought a regulator with guage mounted on it. Ran for 500 miles and it leaked. The 3rd on was NOS that had been sitting on the shelf since the '80s. They gave it to me. No guarantees. Set pressure to 5#s and have about 1200 on it and no problems....yet....

Thanks very much. I haven't used a lead additive in my fuel lately---may not have helped things !
