I disassembled all the suspension on my gremlin. Now I can not remember if the calipers are mounted on the front or rear of the rotor? I seem to remember it being the rear, but pics I find of gremlins they are on the front?

They will mount so that the bleeder is up!
74 Hornet Hatchback X twins (since 1977)
62 American Convertible (still worth the $50 I spent in 1973!) AMCRC #513, AMO #384
70 AMX 360 4-speed (since 1981)

Technically you can mount them either way, as long as the bleeder is up. If you want to reverse them from front to back, change them from side to side and they will still be correct. There is no advantage to mounting in front or back, except to clear suspension components.

The dust shield is a clue as to how they were mounted though. It is made to clear suspension components and will usually only mount properly one way.

I took a set of Bendix? front discs from a '76 Gremlin X and I remember thinking it was odd they were toward the back of the car as you likely remembered correctly
The car was a 258 2bbl and had an AMC20 rear! That was also surprising
