Have an '85 CJ7. Recently I've gotten gremlins in the electrical system involving the tail light fixtures....
So the running lights work fine. Otherwise though, the right side seems to be out. Left turn signal works but not right; left 4-way flasher works but not right. I've pulled and checked the bulbs and the fuses, plus the two main bulbs are both on when the running lights are on. Conversely, when I put it in reverse, the RIGHT back up light comes on but not the left (and again, the left back up bulb is fine). Initially I suspected a grounding issue but the schematics show both rear fixtures share a common ground. If it was just the right turn signal I'd suspect the switch in the turn signal arm but it's more than that. My only other suspect is the wiring, but it's odd that the wiring for the right turn, right flasher, and left back-up would all go out at once. Suggestions? Thanks for your time and help.

Unplug the right front parking light assy at the connector. Take a test light and see if you are getting power to the turn signal circuit. If no power there then follow the harness back to the next connector plug if there is one. Check for power there. This way you can isolate the area where the short is. If it is in the long section of the harness, untape it and check for breaks in the wiring. You can use this same diagnosis test for the reverse light. Good luck, Mike.
