On a 73 AMX their is a yellow wire coming out of the fire wall above the wiring harness. It is about 2ft long and has a braided heat shield on it. Any idea where it goes?

Looking at the TSM the only yellow wires in the engine compartment are for the ignition circuit. It should come from the ignition switch and connect to the pink resistance wire which goes to the coil.

If it don't go to the coil, it may go to the dashpot at the carb. It would help to know whst type of connector it has.

Bullet, Packard 59, Fork or eye.

yeah, that is what i thought, but called it a dashpot.  A solinoid that adjusts the throttle a wee bit.  then if so, the wire should be a bullet / barrel type.
