How much pressure does the oil cooler lines run? When pulling my trans I had to cut the rubber lines that go to the cooler in the radiator as I was unable to get the fittings to budge. I'm wondering if it would be possible to use a hose clamp on the tube end rather than ordering one with the standard fittings? I could flare the tube just slightly and use a hose clamp. I could also probably get a fitting with a barb to screw back into the radiator, or get a hose made up locally with the correct radiator fitting.

You can use a hose clamp. If concerned push the hose on far enough to use two clamps. Oil to the cooler is coming from the torque converter return line and should have very little pressure. Most of the pressure is in the valve body to the clutches and bands.

If you use new line make sure it is rated for oil, not fuel line.

good info, thanks! The local NAPA store here says they make hydraulic lines in store, so I was thinking they could make up a couple with the correct radiator fitting and just leave the other end open and I could use a hose clamp, maybe two as suggested. I'm guessing their hose would be rated for pressure and the proper kind for oil.

I got the local hydraulic hose place to make new hoses for me. I have done the hose clamp thing before in other makes and always got a bit of leakage.

If you use rubber hose be sure to get it from a trans shop. If you use other hose even power steering hose it will fail and make a really big mess and possably hurt the trans. Even trans hose will need to be changed eventually.

Flaring the steel lines is a good idea. You can also score them a bit with a hacksaw or dremel to get some grip and be sure to use fuel injection rated clamps.

Any shop that makes hydraulic lines will have properly rated hose also. If you just need a couple short lengths to couple metal lines they may have some scraps they will let you have... or have cheap.
