On the 68/69 AMX and Javelin door lock lever (the one in the arm rest) what holds the lever onto the rod? Just the arm rest itself, or is there some other piece?

On the originals, there is a countersunk hole in the base of the lever and a corresponding threaded hole in the shaft that protrudes through the door panel that is intended for a small screw. It is visible once you remove the armrest from the door panel.
The reproduction levers available from AMARK do not have this hole for the screw and don't really require it - there is a flat on the shaft and on the lever that acts as a "keyway" and they are a snug fit, regardless of whether you are using originals or reproductions. |

The black plastic door lock levers were simply a tight press fit. As they wore they would get loose.

Long time AMC fan. Ambassador 343, AMX 390, Hornet 360, Spirit 304 and Javelin 390. All but javelin bought new.

X2 - They are prone to cracking usually due to lack of lubrication to the lock or door latch. |

And the metal ones (often seen, but not stock on an AMX or Javelin) have a retaining clip.
