I just looked at the original pistons and they are unmarked. I bought a Sealed Power replacement piston off eBay that is stamped "std" for #6 but the ring grooves would not accept the Ramco rings I bought from The AMC Store (Dale Cooper). So the original standard pistons are not marked, standard replacements are. I am having trouble finding another piston for this thing. Does anyone know where I can get a 3 ring forged piston with rings? Good used parts would be ok as I probably will only drive it to the occasional car show. Pretty slick, all original old car.

Please note that I found this note tonight while sorting through parts and cleaning the shop. I think it came with the piston or pistons for my 195.6 I got from Kanter's.

SPECIAL NOTE:  These pistons for Rambler six cylinder 195 cubic inch engines are the latest type original equipment duplicates having a 2 5/64 compression ring grooves.  Earlier pistons had 2 3/32 compression ring grooves.  Also, the distance between pin bosses has been increased from 1.060" to 1.185" to accommodate later type connecting rods.  These pistons may be used with either connecting rod.

My comment:  This will be important when you buy rings.  If you are buying only one piston of course you will probably have to buy a complete set of rings to get proper rings for that piston.

You might want to measure the piston ring grooves and see if you can order a set of rings to match. Egge Machine should be able to supply a set of rings for a single piston. There is no problem running one piston with different rings, but I'd get the same type of rings. If you don't know what the others are order standard cast iron rings.

Thanks for the advice. I bought a Sealed Power piston in the original box on eBay. The box was marked in pencil "AMC 196 FH" but it would not accept the rings that fit the original 3 ring pistons. Ring grooves were too narrow. Called Dale Cooper at "The AMC Store" and told him my predicament. When I received the piston he sent, it was a 4 ring and much heavier. Called him again and he said that was all he had for that motor. Now I am a little leery. I have rebuilt everything from flathead Fords to Mazda Rotaries and this Rambler motor has thrown me several curves. At age 70 I am still learning new stuff. I will try Kantner's. Farna also recommended Egge. Thanks to everyone for your interest and input. What a great forum!
