A question for our Australian friends pertaining to the offset of engines in right hand drive cars. My late 60's Ramblers made with left hand steering for our US market have their engines offset to the right side presumably for steering clearance. I wondered if the cars made for your market with the steering wheel on the right have their engines offset to the left. I am asking purely to satisfy my curiosity. Thank you.

Yes, and that's why people have problems putting US small body V8 cross members into our RHD drives (eg 360 V8 into a six cyl Hornet) and then finding clearance problems

I think 74gremx misread your question, our Aussie RHD cars still have the engine offset to the right the same as the US cars, that's why steering is tight. It would have been far too much work to modify the floor pan to accommodate shifting the driveline across. Our Aussie A-body Mopars are the same.

Jeep CJs were all built with the engine/trans offset about 1.5" to the driver side so the front driveshaft would clear the trans/bell housing. Pre-76 Jeeps had a centered rear, so the rear shaft angled slightly. The AMC 20s used 76-up were offset to the driver side.

As WesternRed said, their is not a lot of room between steering shaft and exhaust manifold. The cabin heating system is also completely different.
