Both of the 62 Classics I have or have had do use that rod in mounting the generator. I think it has something to to with how the motor mounts work on the big cars with the pre-63 chassis or it has something to do with the Delco generator in the Classics. If you can mount the engine in your small body rambler using the same motor mount confirmation as your flathead, and you can physically mount the generator as it was mounted with the flathead, you're probably OK. It attaches right to the engine just behind the drivers side front motor mount and goes back to the frame.   It has shock type round rubber mounts.  In this photo you see the motor mount and the front edge of the rod headed rearward.  Both the 60 sedan and the 61 Classic both had it.  Then the rod back to the frame

I can't get these photos reduced enough to attach them.  I'll try PM

Mine uses the generator mount bolts but I can't figure what it has to do the the elctrical system> Seems more of a shock mount under acceleration or something

The 61 trans has the wire coming out of the vacuum modulator.  We cannot find one on the 60 trans at all. i have a feeling the American didn't have the kick down.  Keep in mind my engine (2) are out of big cars. IF you send me an email I can send you the photos for sure. ron@ronfrancis.com
