I posted this last week and got a bunch of views but no reply.. I'm sure one of the Forum's knowledgeable old timers will have the answer I need so I'll give it another try.

I'm just about ready to install a newly rebuilt 360 engine with T10 trans into engine bay on 1974 Javelin but came up with a small bracket which I have reason to believe attaches to the bell housing.
Somehow, I wasn't able to attach a photo of the bracket to this message but I did post a picture of it on my web site at

http://insites.us/garage/amc1.html

I'd GREATLY appreciate it if you'd punch up the link, look at the bracket and tell me what the bracket is for and where it should be attached to the bell housing.  I need to take care of this now, before installing the engine just in case the bracket bolts on from behind, next to the firewall where there's  little room for maneuvering.

Thanks a bunch for your help.. Doc.

I don't recognize that to be an AMC V-8, T-10 combination part.......

That looks like the lever that goes on the underside of the steering column to allow you to remove the key from the ignition key switch on some late 70's - 80's standard trans. cars.

Gents.. thanks for your replies.... to 70Donohue390; I appreciate your taking the time to copy and post the photo..   my efforts to attach the photo in the first place didn't pan out but, now that it's attached to the message,  I'm sure someone will see it and identify it soon.

I inherited all the parts with little or no ID except for this bracket which was labeled "bell housing".  So, if it does, in fact, attach instead to the steering column then I can bolt it on after I install the motor... and that's my next step.  Just finished fitting all new brake lines today so the way is clear for the big engine lift. Thanks for all your comments and help.

It reminds me of the 727 passing gear linkage alignment bracket that goes to the back of the head.

That's what it looks like to me too.
Why do I drive that thing? 'Cause I want to.
