While tearing things down on the 69 Jav to cleanup/paint/replace old bushings, I found my driver's side bracket in this condition. The current strut bushing hardware and rod look good, so I'm guessing the old ones were replaced at some point. The old ones had to be worn out or broken to wear a grove like this in to the bracket. Passenger side bracket looks fine.
Any advice on this? My first thought it to just post for and buy a replacement. |

New 2 piece replacement bushing should center up just fine but this is a pretty common part that could be replaced. It is the same on several models. You could always weld it back to shape.

I was thinking about welding too. Might be messy looking and take some grinding, but I guess it doesn't need a whole lot of strength there for what it does. Any one else seen a bracket in this shape, or maybe worse?

Yes, and the bushings will still center on it. What happened to yours is that at some point the bushing wore through and some idiot drove it like that -- for quite a while I might add!
Had to make a noticeable clunking sound on starts and stops, and put a shimmy in the steering... |

I would weld it and file it back into shape, that is if I did not have another in my parts bin.
BTW I had to fix a hole like that on my clutch linkage. Little welding, grinding and paint and no one will know. Dave ---- |

Thanks for the feed back all. So a couple hours later of welding, grinding, filing and I'm in business.
Time for a bit of blasting and paint.
