Hmm...  I'm reasonably sure it doesn't spring back, the throttle pulls it back. The cable should be free and real easy to push and pull. If it's not easy to do pinched between a finger and thumb then it's too tight.

I don't see how the cam change could do anything, unless the cable got kinked or installed wrong. Cable should only go on one way though. Throttle pushes the cable in, right? I mean as you increase throttle cable goes in. Sounds like you might have something loose inside the trans (cable could have come loose) or have a sticking valve. Sticking valve would just be coincidence that it stuck when the cam was changed.

yes it does push in with the throttle, and i have yet to pull the pan and check to see if theres anything loose in there....thought at one point when i was running it the trans cooler lines wernt tight and it leaked fluid out...and it made a weird noise. but i didnt run it after that till i got some more fluid in it. did i maybe ruin something in the trans by it running low on fluid?

The cable controls internal trans pressure as well as the "kick-down" operation. Without the cable, or the cable moving freely, reduced pressure will lead to slipping bands and clutches. That means excess heat, which will kill the trans in short order. The slipping doesn't help much either...

The M8 is a cast iron heavy trans like the M-11 and M12, just an older version. The M8 was used behind early AMC V-8s, like their 327. It's plenty strong for an SBC. I didn't know anyone ever used a Borg-Warner trans behind an SBC though. Interesting that Checker did! Since many mistake hte AMC 327 for the Chevy, I had to look it up, and discovered it is indeed an SBC. No offense itended...

Frank....Avanti Motors Corporation (another AMC)after 1965 used the "left over" Borg Warner Automatics that were originally put in the Studebaker Powered Avanti's in the 327 and 350 CID SBC Powered Avanti 2's. I have owned several, traded the last one for a 68 AMX, 390, 4 speed car.
