I've spent a few weeks schooling myself on this carb, this intake, this engine...learned how to use a vacuum gauge and timing light...read countless posts and articles about manifold vs. ported vacuum. To paraphrase Obi-Wan, I've taken my first steps into a larger world. Anyway, I've learned that I get about 19" of vacuum at warm idle in gear (550 rpm), and timing is at 6 BTDC with vac advance unplugged and capped. That's assuming the balancer pulley hasn't slipped. I hooked the vac advance to ported on the carb (as Holley says in it's instructions), and was able to lean idle mixture screws and maintain 650 rpm idle(in park) with no stalls. Throttle response is now very crisp at takeoff and while cruising. I'm pretty pleased with how it's running now. Thanks for all your input!
