Do you really want to be flying down the highway at 80 MPH thinking about that wheel? Personally, I wouldn't!! Why take the chance, that wheel is not rare or valuable??

A good wheel repair shop can repair the lug stud holes if you can't find a replacement wheel.

Just my 2 cents!!

Having been in the tire/wheel business for 40 years I've seen some strange things when aluminum wheels are damaged from being loose such as this instance where only one or two lug holes are oblonged.  Even though the wheel centers on the hub it requires even torque and clamping force on all lug nuts.  With the two damaged lug nuts seats this is not possible and they are not repairable.  We deal with two companies that specialize in OE reconditioned wheels and both of them will not repair any type of damage to lug nut areas.  Unfortunately, Bill, What you have there is 20 pounds of scrap aluminum.

Actually, Dennis - these are rare. If they come up for sale they are generally snapped up before you can say boo. How many have been on eBay lately? None that I know of in the last 12 months. This is the only set I've seen "loose" meaning not in use and/or for sale in a couple of years.
To find another would be, well, nearly impossible. I've been looking.

I'm not arguing that it's safe - I had questions about that obviously as I was asking what others might do..........
but I am saying that I need to explore all options.
To find another like it to replace it - I could be looking 3 or 4 years and I may have a problem wheel on my car as it is - so one way or another, I have to find another wheel or make one usable.
It's that or go back to rusty plain steel 15" wheels. These aren't 14's.

(actually I had been looking for wheels for about 5 years when I found these!)

HAHA - anyone here have a good wheel to match the good set of 3?

Put two of each on!
Do it side to side so that the ones you see match.
Then keep looking for one good wheel to match either set.

U R as crazy as I am sometimes. LOL

I guess to own AMC you must be creative and a little goofy sometimes. You so often come up with some ideas..

I had considered something along those lines.
Then which-ever style I find, I'd only have to switch 2, not all of them.

I am with Rogue343. I would not run them as is.

I am not sure they can't be repaired. I would by pass the wheel exchange companies since they have different liability constraints.

I do know a local 1993 Ferrari 348 owner took a rim out along with a few other parts vintage racing. He got it repaired and it was destroyed, bent and cracked.

I didn't know they were "rare" or hard to find in your neck of the woods. They might not have been as rare here in CA. The wheels are just like the ones that were on my uncles (and most other) Eagle Wagons I have seen here in CA, and they show up in the bone yards with those wheels from time to time.

As far as other options, there ARE wheel repair places that are capable of properly repairing lug stud holes! My brother in law had (2) aluminum wheels repaired for his truck that had the same issue as your wheels. After the repair they looked perfect and he used the truck for another 6-8 years with no wheel problems.

Well, you can always go with aftermarket wheels. Jeep XJ wheels fit and are the right backset too -- if you can find a set without "Jeep" cast into them or the centers.
