WOW, lots of variety! any reason you chose the oil weight that you did? I am looking to go synthetic. some great info on the internet about racing oils in general. I believe Adkins is running a 10w30 synthetic.

Steve said it best in my opinion, the weight of oil should match your bearing clearance.  I have always run bearings loose, and consequently run 15W50 or 20W50.  In anything with normal clearance I use Rotella Synthetic 5W40 from WalMart.

Allan,
Just like the never-ending debates on the best oil filter,
you will never get a consensus on the best brand/weight of oil.

Don't have a race motor, but I noticed Schaeffer Oil was mentioned a few times. They are well respected in the commercial/industrial world & make some of the finest lubricant's available.

Rotella 15w40 in every thing I own.
Lawn mower, atv, motorcycle, old hot rods, wife's Camry, farm tractor and jeep.
And the reason, my cummins ram recommended it.
More anti wear stuff in diesel oil.
If I need it thicker I add one qt Lucas.
