Has anyone used both intakes back to back on the same engine to compare? Would a loss of power be noticed going from the Air Gaps modern design to a 60's  tech R4b?  I also need to know how much height difference between the two; the Air gap won't allow hood closure on my 71 AMX with the stock flapper air cleaner, would the R4b?

Isn't the R4B as tall or taller?

I have not tried both back to back, but have used the R4B. My guess would be that you couldn't tell the difference in height or performance. The R4B lack of clearance broke the plastic tab on my 70 AMX ramair.
The best intake that I have found for a combination of weight, hood clearance, and performance is an Offenhauser Equaflow 360. They are still made new, and listed on Summit or Jeg's. This is not the same intake as the Offy Dual Port 360. Also, the stock intake is decent if you aren't interested in turning a bunch of rpm, but is heavy.

I believe you're going to run into the same clearance issues with the R4B. I'm running a
Performer on my 1973, and I can't use the flapper on that without possible damage.

Thanks for that info, I will now go about my next task of creating a dropped air cleaner base. Or get a stock intake!

I may go back to a stock intake. They're heavy, but the factory parts fit as they should. Smile

Had to do that on the SC.  Installed a torker intake, which was much taller than a stock intake.  The SCs have a unique tube design and fortunately, there are repoped tubs.  Cut it down quite a bit, installed it with the stock air cleaner and it all now works nicely.
