Amos, you need to check with that shop and see if they know anything about Borg-Warner automatics. AMC used Chrysler auto trannys from 1972 on. Since that shop specializes in AMC and Chrysler, I bet they mean 72+ AMC. Internally Chrysler and 72+ AMC autos are identical, only the bell housing was different (casting of main case, which has an integral bell/case, not separate units like the BW).

Yes. When I called the first time I started with asking what transmissions they are familiar with (I didn't specify Borg-Warner.) He asked what car it was in and I said AMC. He told me that it depends on the year as the oldest thing they have done was something like '59ish. He then asked me which one it was, naming off m-10, m-11, m-40.... So, I'm guessing either he knows his Borg-Warner's, or he is quite quick with a computer. Anyway, I told him the model and year and he called me back in two days with the number. I believe it was something like $250 or so in parts.

I'd much rather take it to a shop that someone from the forum has been to, with good results. If anyone knows of a reputable shop in nc, please let me know.
