Casey,
May I suggest that you buy one of these 1974 AMC AMX Javelin color-coded and laminated wiring diagrams. Below is a photo of the one I bought off of Ebay, it was $17.95, but well worth it.
It is very detailed and much easier to understand than the TSM.
The Ebay item number is:  361254142075

Original Owner, 1974 Javelin:
360ci,2v,727TC. Motorola Multiplex with 8-Track.
G4 Plum exterior with 421Q Black Uganda Interior. Purchased on July 16, 1974 from Hooker AMC, Sherman, TX for $4500.20

Do the 4-way flashers work? if not, is the flasher switch pushed in (ON) or pulled out (OFF)? I believe that if the 4-way flasher is inoperative or removed and the switch is pushed in (ON), you will have no brake lights.
