Any issues with pinion angle and/ or drive shaft length? For those who have made the modification, what is the exact length of the material to be removed?

It ALL depends on the transmission used. It is always best to put it together and measure the length needed for YOUR car. There are several good sites that explain how to measure for driveshaft length. Always measure with the weight on the wheels. I shortened the Ford explorer aluminum shaft and the costs was only about 125 at a local shop.

Pinion angle was measured and checked before welding the axle pads.

Well I used 2 short axles to get the best width----this was on a 66 Barracuda. The only real issues were with the 2.5 TTI exhaust were it went over the axles.

On my 69 AMX it uses a Ford 9 inch version from a police car using 2.80 Posi. It has a 5 speed Richmond with 3.27 first gear. Good gear spacing and low noise on the highway. It was installed about 1993.

The axle shaft centerline to u joint centerline is about an inch or so less than the AMC 15. Meaning you may need a longer drive shaft. There is also a half inch thick spacer available to move ujoint adapter forward.

My measurements are on 91-92 Ranger 8.8 against 67-69 American AMC 15.

What is the length of the amount of the axle tube on the long side that needs to be removed to match the short side?

Here's the measurement that I did, comparing the two sides (3")...

but honestly if I were you, I'd want to measure the axles that I have, just to be sure.

Put the uncut housing on spring perches and see where everything ends up. See if it NEEDS to be cut. See if the width will work with your desired rims and check wheelwell clearance. It might be that you need both sides cut to fit your rims.

Me I just cut the long axle to the same length as the short axle and centered it then. The pinion was not centered and I just dealt with it.
