Has anyone found a compatible GM part number for the lower bearing and support for a tilt column? My support (plastic around the bearing) is cracked and the bearing is shot.
Do any of the AMC vendors carry a replacement? Bob tufcj |

Not sure what style bearing the early tilts use but the lower bearing on the Saginaw tilt columns (70 and later) are still available.

I just got the bearing in last week from Kennedy American. I also need the plastic piece and have glued the one I have back together since I couldn't find it anywhere. It seems that later cars used a slightly different looking piece, as did GM cars, but they might fit for all I know. The one on my 69 AMX looks sort of like a big castle nut.

With the help of a GM column rebuilder, I found that the bearing/retainer from a 67-68 Chevelle, Camaro, Impala, w/tilt will work. It's just a little different, held in place with 2 stainless screws instead of a clip. The new retainer is made from Delrin, instead of plastic, so it should last the life of the car.

If the AMC vendors don't have it you might try Classic industries.

Got one from the guy that helped me. Figured I owed him that since he took the time to email and look at pictures and measurements that I emailed him. $87 to my door with the bearing and retainer (made in USA). The bearing alone was $35.
