Hey guys,
Can you swap tailshaft housings between a 904 and a 998? I want to know because my car has a screw in connector where the tranny has a different setup on it. I could swap the speedo cable, but I am not sure if the connection at the speedo is the same nor do I know how difficult it would be to do it. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

The tail housing should be the same. You should be able to remove the speedo gear housing from the tail housing and swap them

My 998 is from a 1981 or 82 spirit. Would the speedo housing interchange with any of the earlier ones that use a screw type connection on the cable?

The connection on the cable comes out of the transmission and rotates for different size drive gears. You can swap the connector inserts.
