Started the Pacer yesterday. The dreaded starter not disengaging and chewing teeth on the flexplate noise. POOP. I caught it pretty fast. The starter on the car looks almost new (rebuilt) . Took starter off and a few teeth on the flex plate that I can tell have a little notch ground away a little. Something was rattling inside the starter. Pulled the cover here is what I found.
Pivot pin came out causing the starter teeth not to disengage all the way. I put the pin back in and with a ball peen hammer rolled the edges over. It's not coming back out I hope. So far no problem. I dodged a bullet for sure.
On another note when was the last time you used a Ball Peen hammer for what it was made for? I bet there is some here that don't know what the rounded end on some hammers is for

For peening, hence the name ball peen.

There is no definition for peen other than it is the wedge-like or round end at the opposite end of the face of the hammer. Huh! Confused
