Darrin,
I really wanted to keep as many of the original parts on the Javelin as possible, so I chose to stay with the original master cylinder, and never looked for a new one. The mechanic rebuilt the master cylinder, tightened everything up, and since I haven't had any leakage of fluid. Edited by dltowers - Mar/31/2015 at 8:17pm |

I'm positive of the origin of my M/C reservoir and cover. They are both from my 14,000 mile car that I purchased new. The M/C and booster have been rebuilt and work great. I did get a new rubber seal as I was concerned that a 40 year old rubber would be hard. The new one was purchased from Kennedy or APD. I'm thinking it's the wire clamp system they use to hold the cap on is not giving it a uniform hold. The cap and top of reservoir is straight. Aside from going to aftermarket, which I don't have the car restored to, I'm stuck with the wire retainer.
So the concense is you live with it. Nothing to prevent the rust? I know brake fluid retains moisture so that's always going to be there. I was told not to use silicone fluid as it tends to leak more. Steve |

I have used silicone fluid for years with no leaks. After you lose engine compartment paint due to leaky lines or a leaky MC, you'll use silicone fluid......

The only issues with silicone DOT 5 brake fluid is that you can not mix with the older types of brake fluid AT ALL. It does not leak more, in truth it will leak less. You must have new or rebuilt systems to remove all the old fluid from the car.
