I was working on the brakes of one of my cars and noticed it has red shocks in the front....previous owner

How much stiffer are the Reds to the Black ???

I could be wrong, but I don't think the color means anything; just the preference of the manufacturer. They come in red, white, black, blue, and yellow. Perhaps even more colors. You should be able to see the manufacturer's information on it/them and check that info on a website to see what type of shocks they are.
Son's car: '73 Gremlin X, 401, T-10, Mopar 8.75 rear with 3.23 sure grip. My car: '70 Newport Convertible, 440 automatic

Depends on year, but in the 69-74 era factory shocks were black and dealer replacement shocks (with factory part numbers) were a reddish color. Stock shocks were identified as hd or non hd by part number and by paint daubs at the bottom.
