Any advise of which bellhousing is best suited for t5 z bar clutch in a 74 gremlin? I'm looking at the one called multi bell and the one like omix-Ada 16916.02

Multibell and anything 82 up. The Eagle bells included as their hydraulic slave bolts where z bar bolts. No 4cyl bells work.

I'm leaning to the multi bell type. Not sure if it's an illusion but the 16916.02 type looks shallower. I've heard that causes z bar alignment issues. What about shifter placement in a Gremmie with multi bell, is it about right?

IIRC the bell you want is a little over 6" front to back and not the longer one used with the T10 trany.
As for where the shifter will sit in a Gremlin I can not tell you as mine is in a 70 Javelin.

You can find shifter placement specs online and a tape measure to the rear of the block will show you where the shifter will go.

All AMC six cylinder bells are about 6.5" deep, with the lone exception of a rare Mexican T-10 bell. All T-10 bells and AMC V-8 bells are around 8" deep. There is one exception here as well -- 1979 Spirit AMX models with 304 and four speed used the six cylinder bell and SR4 four speed transmission. Not a good trans for a 304, but apparently adequate at least through the warranty period for a STOCK 79 304, which didn't have much more power than a 258 six the same year.

Now I'm talking strictly AMC CARS.  All Jeep V-8 models I know of used the 8" bell, but sixes are a totally different story! Bell depths are mixed according to the transmission used. If you want to know more about Jeep trannys the Novak Adapters Knowledge Index has just about everything you ever wanted to know.
