bad connection. on solenoid. If it was clicking and it started...and voltage was dropping, bad connection. the neutral safety switch isn't the problem I don't think. or the starter has a bad connection on the pole shoe.   clean all the connections on the solenoid. including the bolts that hold it to the inner fender.

Good morning. I cleaned all the connections when i put in the new solenoid. And it started at once when I put it in neutral. Where do I find the neutral safety switch?

On the transmission. Its around the left rear corner. It screws out. But you will lose some fluid. Its a typical TF part.

It could also be the shift rod needs adjusting. (common when motor or trans mounts wear out too) Pushing up (column shift) or forward (floor shift) should engage the NSS. I've run into an issue where the plastic piece that the NSS rides on inside the trans gets busted so it doesn't make contact in park. In several it also caused the backup lights to come on in drive.

The NSS is the 3 prong plug (back corner driver's side
