Like a lot of people here I'm very interested in this one. Probably 'cos TH200s should be easily available from local Commodores?

The other thing that concerns me is the change to the diff ratio. Our Aussie Javs have the 3.17-and-lower carrier don't they .. So we'd need a carrier change too to take advantage of the OD?

No, you will be fine with a gear change, I believe the 3.15 cut off is related to Jeeps and the odd carrier is for something like 2.73 gears in a Jeep (approx.) as they didn't run the 2.87 gearset the we get in the cars.

I had a 3.54 gears from a Jeep AMC 20 installed in my Aussie 2.87 car housing without any issues. The OD transmission would be a nice addition with this gear set for highway cruising, maybe even go a bit more with the gears once you have the OD.

I am sure WesternRed is correct, the Aussie cars can have ratio changes without needing to change the carrier. My car is also 2.87 ratio, the plan is to change it to 3.7 or 3.5 ratio.
I have been looking out for some locally but none so far.

I wasn't aware that local commodores used the  200 R4 box.
Do you know what models used them?

Depending on the size of your tire, a gear change may not be necessary. With 235/75/15s on my Eagle and 3.08 gears, it begs for O/D over 55 mph.

I *thought* non-computerized VN-VP V6s .. Same as the TH700R4s for the VN-VP V8s.

Great news about the gearing! My '74 Jav with 304 runs a 3.15 rear and it's much nicer to drive (acceleration) than m Aussie '69 with the 343 and numerically low diff. If I can find a 3.15 and swap in I'll be very happy :)

Commodores used a TH700, then 4L60. Then 4L60E.
You can try a place called easy power in Campbellfield if you are looking for a 2004R.

E means electronic valve body. In oz the 700r4 is sometimes referred to as a turbo hydramatic 700.

OP. Have you gone ahead with this yet? I have recently put a TH2004R into my 69 Aussie built Javelin and I did a lot a research etc before doing this. I also rebuilt the trans myself but got a lot of help from the guys at the Turbo Buick Forum. Lonnie from Extreme Automatics is a great guy and you will do well to buy from him. The other guy to deal with is Dave Huseck from Turbo Buick Performnce. Dave supplied me with all the parts and tech info needed to rebuild one of these to handle 500hp. He also supplied the custom 9.5" lockup convertor. There is a lot to making these live the main one being pressure. The cores are getting harder to get and there a many options other than the BF cores that everyone says to use. Great if you can find one but a KC core is a great choice too. The valve sizes in some of the VB's are a different size so there is a lot to "tuning" one to get it right.

I changed out the 2.87 gears and now run 3.73's with 265 50R15's and once the TC is locked I'm pulling about 2100 at 60mph. Drives real nice now and the pain of inserting the 2004R has been well worth is but it's not a cheap conversion. They fit better than the TH700/4L60's though but keep in mind I run a SBC in my Javelin.
