Sent the 66 Classic 232 with three and overdrive to the local Trans shop and they pulled the torque tube and found that the rubber mount between the tube and the back of the Trans has melted away. Galvan’s does not have a rebuild kit for the 232 and the only thing I can find that look close is in Argentina. I have a local gasket and rubber shop that has up to 1 inch thick rubber so we could make our own. I had the thought of cutting an old tire but Doug at Galvan’s said that might be too stiff. What are the dimensions and has anyone else had to make this part and how did it turnout? |

I have a torque tube from a 64 Classic (V8/auto) that I will sell for $50 plus shipping from CA. I don't know if it will fit. The rubber mount is in excellent shape. That's why I saved it.

Galvin's said they are different. I wish someone would tell me otherwise. How much for what you have? Do you know how thick the rubber part is?

I should have posted this in the trans section. Do you want to move it?

Try Blazer and ask for Steve www.blaserauto.com. 309-764-3571.
He was the vendor reproducing the rubber trunnions. I got my V8 trunnions from him and he might have the 6's as we'll |

Unfortunately they only make the older pre 62 rubber cushions for torque tubes. Thye come off, the 62-66 type is made onto the end piece from the factory, the replacements are stuck on with RTV or something similar.

The replacement for V8 is identical except it not volcanized to the flange lip. The only advantage with the vulcanized vs. adhesive is at the time a better dirt seal. The trunnion actually has a molded slit just like the original that flange inserts and locks onto, and can be a bugger to "pop" on. Very well made and it is as good as the original IMO.
