For this you really need a factory service manual because there's so many different things that can cause a OD to quit working it's difficult to guess when all you've said is "quit working".
Blown fuse, it uses the heater fuse in a 66 American, it may be the same in yours. Burned contact points in governor. Damage to governor cap or contacts. Improper adjustment of governor. Loose wires. Not enough travel in the shift rod. And several more. It's really not a complicated system, just 4 wires, a kickdown switch, a governor, and overdrive solenoid. But you really need the FSM, it has a good diagnostic section for the OD. You can do the test needed with a test light. Or if you can't locate a FSM, we need a lot more information than what you've given so far. |

thanks for the info,
before the o/d went completely out it would work for a few shifts and stop shifting and then start again. i though it was sticking , could the solinoid be sticking or the govonor sticking, i checked the fuse and it is good, and took the relay off and cleaned the contacts ,and i pushed the contact down and it made a clicking sound at the govonor. thanks i will try to locate a fsm

By you saying relay, I'm guessing you mean the kick-down switch?
Both the governor and overdrive solenoid have contacts inside them that can be crodded over, and need to be cleaned. |

Pull the top of the governor and clean the contact point in it. Take the two small screws off the top of the big solenoid. It won't fall apart! There is a set of contact points in there also -- clean them too. Then you should be okay.
Oops.... not trying to step on your toes Tom -- didn't read your entire message first! You already pointed this out... |
