I just installed a new clutch/pressure plate and throwout bearing in a 70 rebel machine. Have a vibration while driving and found i was missing the spring that holds clutch fork to Zbar tight.Still have some vibration/rattle. I read in a forum last week that some kits have a throwout bearing with a different size inside diameter on the bearing. I never checked it on the trans input shaft. I can touch it thru the clutch fork hole in bellhousing. Does anyone know the size difference between the two input shafts? Would it be very noticable by pushing on the bearing with a screw driver or do I need to drop the tranny again and check the fit? Thanks. Rob

1970 has a larger cone on front of trans. I previously put a 1970 throw out bearing on the front of 69 trans in my Hurst car. It didn't work well. I now could not find a 69 throw out bearing so i sleeved a 70 and it grinds like it is hitting the pressure plate wrong. I used a borg and beck chev style pressure plate kit from summit but got the amc throw out bearing from auto zone and i have to take it all apart now and would also like to know what part numbers to get it right this time.It has a scatter shield and deep sump oil pan and it is no fun to do it. Any one know what part numbers i have to use to get it right this time in a sc rambler. The Dog.

My AMC engine builder informed me that there are four different sized throwout bearings that can fit T-10 trannys. He matched the one that came with the T-10 with a new one....

I think the 68-69 bearing retainer is larger than the 70-74. I can post sizes but it will be tomorrow they are at work
The 70 to 74 bearing retainer is about 1.320 The 69 and older retainer is about 1.400 So if you have a early throw out bearing on a 70 and newer retainer you could have some noise. Edited by 1970390amx - Oct/22/2014 at 1:06pm |
