Any axle shop capable of making a splined shaft can make a new one -- if they have an axle shaft long enough. You have to have the center carrier bearing on the shaft, shich might make it a bit harder to make, but it can be done. I bet you can find a used one cheaper though, even after shipping.
I don't think the V-8 or 232 shaft will work. Those used the AMC 20, and I think the pinion shaft is larger in diameter (and spline count) than the AMC 15 pinion shaft. I believe you need a 63-64 196 shaft. I have one if you need it, don't know what shipping would be. |

Well, He could just come get the whole deal out of the convertible, but I doubt it would have anything higher than a 3:15 gear set and the extra weight and hp required to run the 20, plus brakes would make it an extreme effort in futility.
What I was offering was to cut the rear splined chunk off the shaft and you could have it welded on to your toasted one, but as frank pointed out you need one for an AMC 15 and that I do not have. Unless AMC was insane enough to use the same spline...it sure looks familiar in your pics. If you have deminsions I could look, but get the one from Frank and be done with it. It should be pretty cheap to ship, just drop it into a piece of PVC with end caps and ship. |

It is different, that's probably why I thought it was an axle. There is a higher spline count on the V8
