If a torqueflight trans replaces a BW auto trans in a 70 AMX, does the shifter rod need to be replaced? If so will the rod from a later model AMX with the torqueflight work? The shifter indicator doen not seem to line up at this point.
Thank you.

If you have a flat flange crank engine a Torqueflite will need to have an adapter setup to bolt up. next is the dreadded linkage senairo. The kick down linkage will bolt right up. The shift linkage will have to be all from the donor car and should be close. If it is a floor shift the the shifter will have to be modified to fit the shift pattern of the torqueflite. Not a real tough fix!!!! Good luck. Jim

Jim
The trans and engine from a 401 car is already in the 70 AMX. The shifter works but the floor indicator dial does not quite line up with the trans shift points. Park is a little past the P on the dial. I think the 390 linkage may have been used, and I might need the 401 rod? Thanks for your reply, and if you think that may be my problem please provide any further insight.

You will have to modify the shifter to change the attaching point for the rod. The linkage ratio will have to be changed to match the TF trans. The throws are different.

Thanks Steve. Do you know if the shifter needs to be lengthened or shortened? Or by how much?
Thanks for your response.
