I know this topic has been covered a million times already, but I've just spent 45 minutes reading previous threads and there seems to be conflicting information.

With poly trunnion bushings (AMX) is it ok to torque the spindle nut to only 15 ft. lbs (vs. the factory 35) if using a nylock nut?  If I go any tighter than that I cannot turn the trunnion by hand.  Even at that I have to put a bolt through the upper control-arm mounting hole to gain some leverage when twisting.  I see that 15 ft. lbs is the torque spec for the big car trunnions, but they use a castle nut and cotter pin.

I only want to do this job once.  Obviously, I want the car to be safe but I also want to make sure that the steering will self-center after a turn.

If I had it to do over again I'd probably go with the Rare Parts rebuilds, which seem to be closest to OEM, but I already got these trunnions and poly bushings from Galvin before I read about the potential problems with poly bushings.

Cameron....I do not use the poly at this interface.....there is two place IMHO that the desgn need rubber.  1. The trunion interface with spindle 2.  The torque links on AMX, dealer installed Javelin and Gremlin.  I just don't like they trunion bushing does not have metal inner sleeve to torque on.

Thanks for your thoughts on this Ross. Where can I buy the rubber vertical trunnion bushings?
