I have both the original drive shaft for my cast 196 with 3sp w/overdrive that uses the center bearing inside the torque tube. I also have a drive shaft from an aluminum 196 that had the flash-O-matic trans. and does not use the center bearing.
It seems it will fit, has anyone done this. I'm assuming with no center bearing this should be quieter than the original with the bearing? Thanks for any input. |

If it's the same length as the other one And splines into the tranny I don't see why not! Done a somewhat similar swap in my 59 rambler w/ cast iron 196 plus flashomatic but I switched from the tubed driveshaft w/o center bearing to the solid shaft center bearing because something was bouncing around in the original driveshaft which was irritating me at low speeds and plus the rear end took a dump.
