According to Chilton's Auto Repair Manual 1954-1963, that would be 4.5 psi across the board, regardless of motor.

And crud can collect in the check valves of the fuel pump too.

The fuel pump is pretty simple to take apart and clean, some have a built in fuel filter that rarely gets changed.

Sometimes even after rebuild the pump pressure can be too low. Pressure is regulated by the diaphragm spring, and that spring gets weak with age.

Thanks everyone. Yea, I rebuilt the carb. this past winter/spring,               and I put in new fuel lines and cleaned out the tank.
Then I bled the system into an old gas can with a electric fuel pump in case I missed anything.
Guess I'll have to rebuild the original fuel pump (I was only getting 3 PSI from the original pump) or just use the electric pump.

Thanks .

There's a carb rebuilder who posts youtube videos of his work several times a week.  He always recommends a fuel pressure regulator to limit the pressure to 3 psi for carbs because the ethanol-laced gas has different properties then the fuel these carbs were designed for.   He says the modern fuel has made the original fuel pressure specifications obsolete.  If you're only "problem" is the 3 psi pressure that's probably adequate and you won't need to rebuild your pump.  Joe
