I am getting ready to start rebuilding the 360 for my 74 AMX/Jav. I have a question. I do not know that much about cams. I keep hearing about the new comp cams Thumper, but I have know idea what size cam or cam kit I need. I have an Edelbrock 650 cfm carb, performer intake, will be running the new Patriot shorty headers, I plan on going .030 over with forged pistons. It has a Pertronix Ignitor II installed on distributor. I am not looking for a racecar as I plan to take my wife and kids with me in it to shows and cruises, but don't want a pooch either. Also will be upgrading exhaust to 2.5". Any ideas on what cam kit might work best for my situation?

What gearing
What compression
A what converter

So many unknown answers. I think a stock converter car would do best with that old summit 8600 or the comp 268
Or similar from other grinders.

I used the mutha thumpa in 2 engines. I needed special pushrods to get geometry right. Was not impressed. Took it out of my motor and in a .480 lift that I had. They bleed off a lot of bottom end.I would go with one of the comp setups that have been proven by other members here

4:11 gears, stock converter, I'll have to figure out compression.
