Hello,
my 1966 Ambassador 990 should run on 7.75-14 tires. As these tires are no longer available in Europe since a long time, someone fixed 195/75-R14 to the car. Looking through several lists in the internet I noticed, that the equivalent to the 7.75-14 would be 205/75-R14. Therefore I want to ask, if it is possible without technical alterations to run the 1966 Ambassador on the greater 205/75-R14. Thanks for your help Helmuth |

There shouldn't be any problem with the 205's. I'm running that size on my '65 American and that's a smaller car. Check with your tire installer, you may be able to go up to 215's.

You should have no problem with that size tire both in fitting it on to the wheel and clearance issues under the fender, it is one commonly used on AMC cars and frankly getting harder to find. A tire that is nice on the car is a P205-70-r14. (or a 215-70-r14) It looks nice and rides well and being a slightly lower profile is an improvement all the way around.
