There is a ton of room at TDC for decking. The power keys for the 304 all lie within the heads. The standard valve sizes are horribly small. Using 305 Chevy stainless valves from Manley (1.96 intake 1.64 exhaust) blows the flow characteristics wide open. On a Performer Intake from Edelbrock which is easily available even in the UK, (Ebay) with a Lunati Voodoo valvetrain #64501LK, shave the heads 1 to sneak over 9-1 compression 300hp is within reach with all of the supporting systems sorted out. We have several of these motors running in Jeeps that are a ball to drive on the street.
